{"id":11153,"date":"2013-09-23T02:00:23","date_gmt":"2013-09-23T00:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/?p=11153"},"modified":"2013-09-23T02:00:23","modified_gmt":"2013-09-23T00:00:23","slug":"appointment-of-sarah-khabirpour-problematic-for-luxembourgs-finance-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/appointment-of-sarah-khabirpour-problematic-for-luxembourgs-finance-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Appointment of Sarah Khabirpour Problematic for Luxembourg&#8217;s Finance Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Khabirpour sits on the board of Banque International a Luxembourg, one of the country\u2019s biggest banks, and is a director of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange \u2013 both institutions the CSSF regulates.\u00a0 Her appointment to the board of CSSF as a senior advisor to Luc Frieden, and her network of other positions give the appearance of impropriety.<\/p>\n<p>Does this staffing decision violates the \u201cprinciples of good corporate governance\u201d.\u00a0 The head of ProtInvest, an investor-protection group, has sent a letter to Michel Barnier, an EU commissioner, in which he criticised Mr Frieden\u2019s move as political.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Khabirpour\u2019s multiple jobs showcase the cosy relationships that tie Luxembourg\u2019s business community, which centres largely on fund management, to its regulators and political leaders, suggests Fred Reinertz, ProtInvest\u2019s president.<br \/>\n\u201cIt seems that the minister of finance does not care about the principles of good corporate governance,\u201d Mr Reinertz wrote. \u201c[Ms Khabirpour\u2019s appointment] represents a conflict of interest and a flagrant violation of the basic principles of good governance.\u201d<br \/>\nThe CSSF refuted the \u201cunfounded allegations\u201d in a statement. Mr Frieden and Ms Khabirpour also deny the claims, arguing Mr Reinertz\u2019s actions are politically motivated.
