\nTurkey hopes to finalize free trade talks with Japan before the European Union <\/a><\/strong> does, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybek\u00e7i has said, just days after returning from a commerce ties-enhancing East Asia visit with the prime minister.<\/h4>\n

\u201cThe EU has launched talks with Japan on a free trade agreement (FTA), which we expect to last at least four years in the slow-paced structure of the 28-member union. We will start official talks with Japan as of June 1 and hopefully finalize the talks before the EU does and sign the Japan-Turkey FTA,\u201d the minister said Jan. 14 in his address to Turkish ambassadors who convened in Ankara<\/a><\/strong> for an annual conference.<\/p>\n

Why the<\/span> economy<\/span> minister<\/span> calls<\/span> seeking<\/span> a<\/span> competition<\/span> with<\/span> other<\/span> states<\/span> and<\/span> then<\/span> calculated is<\/span> with<\/span> the<\/span> European<\/span> Union<\/span>,<\/span> he<\/span> did<\/span> not<\/span> explain<\/span>.<\/span> But<\/span> the gap<\/span> in between<\/span> Brussels<\/span> and<\/span> Ankara<\/span> is<\/span> growing<\/span>.
