Most of us agree that a society which has a dramatic fault line between the rich and the poor is not a good one.\u00a0 How can we attack the problem with useful policies?\u00a0 Stop discussing the middle class.\u00a0 In simplest terms, the issues impacting the growing chasm are 1) Disproportionately high income in the top one percent and 2) Failure to prepare the poor for jobs in the new information economy.<\/p>\n

Beating up on either the rich or the poor is not productive.\u00a0 Ask why the rich are so rich today?\u00a0 And why are the poor so poor?\u00a0 Then address those issues. Take the dialogue out of a left-right debate.\u00a0 Try instead to solve a problem. Below are proposals worth considering.<\/p>\n

Our correspondent Lloyd McAulay a New York political activist and attorney, suggests the following: \u00a0Use taxes, not by hiking them on the rich, but by eliminating some favorable treatment. \u00a0Rethink luxury taxes. \u00a0Limit salaries in publicly -traded companies. \u00a0Limit power of the highly-skilled unions and government employees.<\/p>\n

Train and educate people for jobs in the information economy. \u00a0Training must not be a cover for doing nothing. \u00a0Tie rewards from the system to work. \u00a0(Earned income credits). \u00a0 \u00a0Further ideas. \u00a0\u00a0New Policies for the Income Divide<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
