{"id":15985,"date":"2014-03-28T07:04:18","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T06:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/?p=15985"},"modified":"2014-03-28T07:04:18","modified_gmt":"2014-03-28T06:04:18","slug":"women-joining-sports-company-boards-in-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/women-joining-sports-company-boards-in-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"Women Joining Sports Company Boards in Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The percentages are way up, often over fifty percent. \u00a0The problem with these boards is that they&#8217;re often unpaid directors. \u00a0On paid corporate boards, women still hover at around a 10 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Sport NSW, the peak body representing sport in the\u00a0state, has just appointed three women to its board, seeing its female\u00a0representation hit the 60% mark.<\/p>\n<p>And according to Sport NSW CEO Cheryl Battaerd, it wasn&#8217;t actually that\u00a0hard to find the women. By seeking new names for its three open board\u00a0positions via a nomination process, which hadn&#8217;t previously been done,\u00a0they invited applications by advertising widely &#8212; including with Women on\u00a0Boards, Pro Bono Australia and within their own existing newsletters.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not the first time we&#8217;ve seen women dominate a sporting board:\u00a0Netball Australia and Pony Club Australia have boasted female\u00a0representation around the 80% mark for a number of years. \u00a0According to 2013 research by Women on Boards, 24.4% of\u00a0directorships at national sporting bodies are held by women, a handful\u00a0still do not have any women on their board. So far this financial year,\u00a0less than 30% of new such board appointments have gone to women.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation is also supporting the training and development of more\u00a0female directors, running a three-day foundation course for women aspiring\u00a0to join boards in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Sport NSW has tipped the balance well past the 30% mark, uncovering new\u00a0talent that will bring exceptional skills and expertise to the table.\u00a0These women widen the pool of experienced female board directors, and\u00a0hopefully the list of women who&#8217;ll recommend other women for such roles in\u00a0the future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/women-joining-sports-company-boards-in-australia\/women-on-corporate-boards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15986\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15986\" alt=\"Women on Corporate Boards\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Women-on-Corporate-Boards-300x232.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Women-on-Corporate-Boards-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Women-on-Corporate-Boards.jpg 341w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The percentages are way up, often over fifty percent. \u00a0The problem with these boards is that they&#8217;re often unpaid directors. \u00a0On paid corporate boards, women still hover at around a 10 percent.
