{"id":16584,"date":"2014-04-22T21:52:55","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T19:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/?p=16584"},"modified":"2014-04-22T21:55:11","modified_gmt":"2014-04-22T19:55:11","slug":"lawsky-gets-tough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/lawsky-gets-tough\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawsky Gets Tough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York State Financial Services chief understands that even fines that seem humungous to the ordinary citizen are for financial institutions just &#8220;the cost of doing business.&#8221; \u00a0Unless some of these financial officers go to jail, business is going to continue as usual. \u00a0 But Lawsky has his eyes wide open.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At the center of New York Department of Financial Services chief Ben Lawsky&#8217;s concerns are Ocwen&#8217;s\u00a0relationship with Altisource Portfolio Solutions and its home-auction website subsidiary Hubzu.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHubzu appears to be charging auction fees on Ocwen-serviced properties that are up to three times the fees charged to non-Ocwen customers,&#8221; writes Lawsky&#8217;s office. In other words, when Ocwen chooses Hubzu to market a property, the fee is 4.5%, but when Hubzu competes for business in the open market, it&#8217;s 1.5%.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The relationship between Ocwen, Altisource Portfolio, and Hubzu raises significant concerns regarding self-dealing.
