{"id":17491,"date":"2014-06-05T06:19:15","date_gmt":"2014-06-05T04:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/?p=17491"},"modified":"2014-06-05T06:19:15","modified_gmt":"2014-06-05T04:19:15","slug":"piketty-leads-the-discussion-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/piketty-leads-the-discussion-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"Piketty Leads the Discussion Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brandon DeLong, inspired by Lawrence Summers&#8217; review of &#8216;Capitalism&#8221;,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.project-syndicate.org\/commentary\/j--bradford-delong-says-that-the-meritocratic-ideology-underlying-the-rise-in-inequality-may-have-run-its-course\" target=\"_blank\"> takes off <\/a>on one area that has been much discussed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is plenty to criticize in existing corporate-governance arrangements,\u201d Summers writes. \u201cI think, however, that those like Piketty who dismiss the idea that productivity has anything to do with compensation should be given a little pause.\u201d Why? \u201cThe executives who make the most money are not&#8230;running public companies\u201d and \u201cpack[ing] their boards with friends,\u201d says Summers. Instead, they are \u201cchosen by private equity firms to run the companies they control.
