{"id":19033,"date":"2014-08-25T19:55:12","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T17:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/?p=19033"},"modified":"2014-08-25T19:55:12","modified_gmt":"2014-08-25T17:55:12","slug":"should-auditors-sign-financial-statements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/should-auditors-sign-financial-statements\/","title":{"rendered":"Should Auditors Sign Financial Statements?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An industry group which represents some of the US&#8217;s largest investors is urging regulators not to back away from plans to require auditors to sign the financial statements they prepare for companies.<\/p>\n<p>There is an ongoing struggle between the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, which regulates the accounting industry, and the Securities and Exchange Commission over reforms to auditor disclosure. The PCAOB, and many accounting reformers and investment groups had pushed for this change.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sidebar-inject\">The accounting industry and the SEC have resisted. The negotiations have been going on for years. \u00a0In a letter dated August 15, Jeff Mahoney, the general counsel for the Council of Institutional Investors, a nonprofit that represents investment organizations with more than $3 trillion in assets under management, wrote, &#8220;to express our surprise and disappointment&#8230;that the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board has decided to dramatically weaken&#8221; the reforms.<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/should-auditors-sign-financial-statements\/audit-signatures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19034\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-19034\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Audit-Signatures-300x206.jpg\" alt=\"Audit Signatures?\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Audit-Signatures-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.w-t-w.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Audit-Signatures.jpg 424w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An industry group which represents some of the US&#8217;s largest investors is urging regulators not to back away from plans to require auditors to sign the financial statements they prepare for companies.
