A law preventing overowork or Karoshi, was recently passed in Japan.\u00a0 In 2013 alone, 133 people died from suicide or health related issues attributed to overwork.\u00a0 The law requires the government to implement programs which enlighten the public about the risks of overwork.\u00a0 Counseling systess are to be established and suppor proivded for NGOs dealing with the problems connected to overwork.<\/p>\n

The business community has called for the end of regulation of overtime hours, and is opposed to a cap on hours worked weekly.\u00a0 The key to eiminating death from overwork will be efforts to curb the long working hours of many corporate employees.<\/p>\n
