<\/a><\/p>\nIt looked at companies in the S&P 1500 at the time of their 2014 annual meetings and found that 2,150 of the\u00a013,850\u00a0total board seats were\u00a0held by women. Then it noticed an interesting detail. Slightly more of the seats \u2014 2,200 of them\u00a0\u2014 were held by men who were named\u00a0John, Robert, William or James.<\/p>\n
(No word on how the numbers would fare if you added every Tom, Dick and Harry.)<\/p>\n
The closeness of these numbers is pretty eye-opening and unsettling. ‘The pace of change is absolutely glacial,” says Karyn Twaronite, the firm’s\u00a0global diversity and inclusion officer. “The idea that we can\u00a0essentially pick out four common men\u2019s names, at random, and find this shows there\u2019s a long way to go.”<\/p>\n
