Europe is losing the fight against dirty money. Outgoing Europol boss says he\u2019s seen big improvement in EU security, but there is much more to do.<\/header>\n

When Rob Wainwright took over the helm of the EU\u2019s law enforcement agency Europol in 2009, he faced a big problem: \u201cBlack holes.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s how he refers to the massive gaps in information-sharing he found between EU countries on topics from terrorism to money laundering.<\/p>\n

Things have changed, at least in part.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As Europe was hit by a series of terror attacks \u2014 from Paris to Brussels, from Nice to Berlin \u2014 the profile of the EU agency increased and so did the amount of information on terrorism that national governments fed into its databases. However, the same progress has not been made in the fight against financial crime.<\/p>\n
