Some in the market were skeptical that the move was enough, and even whether the the Fed itself had the proper tools to reverse the current market downtrend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to emphasize that this Fed will act aggressively and in particular that central banks are focused on safeguarding market functioning at this point, and will continue to provide liquidity in scale,\u201d Ebrahim Rahbari, director of global economics at Citi Research. \u201cHowever, despite the sharp initial risk rally, we think these measures will still not be sufficiently to durably stabilize market sentiment yet in light of credit concerns and escalating health concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One part of the announcement saw the Fed widen the scale for its $60 billion worth of money the Treasury purchases, which to now had been confined to short-term T-bills.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-106439353\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper vilynx_enabled vilynx_observe vilynx_registered\" role=\"button\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000126372\">\n<div class=\"supra-wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vilynx_wrapperImg\" src=\"https:\/\/image.cnbcfm.com\/api\/v1\/image\/106136227-1568814168888gettyimages-1160029741.jpeg?v=1584390204&amp;w=750&amp;h=422\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"redirectWrapper cta\">\n<div class=\"redirectCenter\">\n<div class=\"text\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"counter\" class=\"counter\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"InlineVideo-0\" class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineBackgroundImageContainer vilynx_img vilynx_mainImg\">\n<div class=\"undefined PlayButton-container \">\n<div class=\"PlayButton-featured PlayButton-base \" data-type=\"play\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Federal Reserve will pump more than $1 trillion as it ramps up its market intervention as coronavirus melts down the economy.
